They are also known by the exonym Tarascan. ==Territory== The Purépechas occupied most of the state of Michoacan, but they also occupied some of the lower valleys of both Guanajuato and Jalisco. Celaya, Acámbaro, and Yurirapúndaro were all in Purépechan territory.
